What if…?

What if…?

Hi, and welcome back to S.O.S Air Conditioning. Today, we’re going to play the “What If” game. We all know it, we may not all love it, but it’s always a good idea to be prepared. Anyone who is a professional in their field of choice may not admit it, or even be aware of it, but they are always playing the “What If” game.

Take a doctor for example; at any time during surgery “this” or “that” can happen, and they need to be prepared for it. How do they do this? By playing the “What If” game inside their heads while prepping for surgery.

So we’re going to play a little game going through a short list of common problems you may run into with your A/C unit. Some of them are very common and you can fix yourself. However, when we’ve run out of possibilities, it’s always good to call S.O.S for quick and efficient service. Many of the problems below fall under “repair and maintenance,” so

Blank Thermostat

You come home to change the air conditioning temperature after a long day out, but the thermostat is blank.

It could be due to…

  • A dead battery
  • Check the power in case the circuit breaker tripped
  • There is a drainline leak
  • The thermostat is no longer functioning

However, if you’ve tried the other options and still have a problem, we can come out and take a look. #3 is a definite call out for service, but it can be hard to tell sometimes without proper training.

We will…Flush the drain and perform a quick operations check-up.

Puddle under the A/C

You walk over to your air conditioning to check the temperature and you’re in a puddle.

It could be due to…

  • A drain line clog
  • The evaporator coil is frozen, broken, or dirty
  • The air handler motor is faulty or broke down

Unless the evaporator coil for your a/c unit is dirty, this is a definite call for service.

We will…perform a check up to determine the cause, flush the drain line, and check if your unit is low on resources specific to air conditioning, such as “Freon.”

Hot House

You’re winding down after a long day, you set the a/c so you can cool off, but the house gets hotter.

It could be due to…

  • Faulty or misprogrammed thermostat
  • Dirty filter
  • Low on refrigerant
  • Dirty evaporator coil

This can be due to a number of things, including several of the causes found above. You can see a bit of a pattern here. This is also the most inconvenient breakdown or cause for repair, so if you’re not sure what’s wrong, raise the white flag.

We will…Perform a routine check up to determine the cause, check resources, and do what is needed to get your house to cool down again.

Those are just the most common problems we run into. Some may require further examination or even a plumber. We hope for our clients’ sake that it doesn’t so we can do our jobs and perform the necessary repairs a.s.a.p. for another happy customer.

If your air conditioning is acting funky, don’t stress. Send out your signal to S.O.S!
